THIRD HUNGARIAN FLAG

ree

The story of this flag will be a bit shorter than the others, but it speaks volumes.

It happened during our performance of Ludas Matyi. At a certain point in the play, Teacher Döbrögi gave Matyi a good spanking with a pillow stuffed full of goose feathers. As the beating went on, feathers flew everywhere. Those with a keen eye might have noticed something red-white-green appearing among the feather storm. That something happened to be the third flag, which I had hidden inside the goose-feather pillow.

After the performance, it was time for cleanup.I carefully vacuumed up all the feathers from the room—and along with them, the third Hungarian flag. The vacuum cleaner belonged to Berni’s family, and after the club day, it went home with them—with the little flag still in the container.

I assume the vacuum's container was later emptied, the flag ended up in the rubbish bin, the bin was emptied into the garbage truck, and so the flag traveled a bit more—until it finally arrived at one of Auckland’s landfills.

So now, the little Hungarian flag is nestled somewhere among the mounds of trash, and who knows when its journey will come to an end.
