IN A FESTIVE MOOD: 15 MARCH COMMEMORATION AND SPRING CLUB DAY AT THE AUCKLAND HUNGARIAN CLUB

On Sunday, we commemorated the 1848/49 revolution and the heroes of the fight for freedom in Auckland in an uplifting atmosphere. KCSP scholarship holder Áron Darvasi recited Gyula Juhász's poem "March on Ides", and then Dr. Tamás Gábor Nagy, Ambassador of Hungary to New Zealand, paid tribute to the holiday with an inspiring speech recalling the historical events of the time. The programme was made even more memorable by Fanni Csényi, KCSP scholarship holder, who led a dance to Hungarian rhythms. During the afternoon, the annual general meeting of the club was held, during which the president Petra Lipóth presented the results and successes of the last year and the current financial situation of the club. The voting for the election of this year's board of directors was then held under the chairmanship of Dr. Tamás Gábor Nagy, with the active participation of all present and a unanimous decision. A big thank you goes to our two outgoing board members, Bernadette Robotka and Adam Vály, for their work for the community over the past years! Board members for the year 2025/26 in order of name: Tünde Bánfalvi, Hunor Csomortáni, Ágnes Harmath-Parkin, Edina Kuki, Petra Lipóth, Viola Vadász. After the ceremony, a dinner rich in Hungarian flavours awaited the club members and their guests: a steaming goulash soup was served as an appetizer by Ádám Vály, and Edina Kuki and Csomortáni Humor presented an authentic Hungarian savoury curd cheese/quark pasta dish. For dessert, András Gergi and Bojána Gergi and Bojána offered a traditional Dobos and Eszterházy cake for the sweet lovers. This time again, we thank the Bártfai family for the delicious bacon provided for the quark

pasta! In March, our popular vendors again offered home-made delicacies for the club day, including delicious sausages, bacon, chestnut puree, pastries, various fermented dairy products, chimney cakes and the inevitable túró rudi. We encourage everyone to mark their calendars now for 25 May, our next club day (and children's day), which will feature a special theatre performance!
