AUskola - November

Small Group

During the November session, the children and I looked at the calendar and noticed that Christmas and many other holidays were approaching. Each child made a letter from the word “HOLIDAY” ("VAKÁCIÓ" in Hungarian), then we assembled the word, and Edina showed them how to chant it backwards: “ó, ió, ció, áció, káció, and vakáció!” We talked about the anticipation of the holidays and what everyone was doing to prepare. After a fun jumping game outside, Edina invited the children to create a story using the illustrations from István Bányai’s picture book Zoom. The children gathered around the images, let their imaginations run wild, and quickly crafted a magical story. Before lunch, we secretly made farewell letters for one of our volunteers, Enid; the children’s hands produced many touching messages and drawings. The afternoon began with a story, followed by a stage rehearsal, and the day ended with decorating gingerbread and magnetic (fridge!) hearts.

Middle Group

The middle group had a fantastic final day of Hungarian school this year. We were delighted to welcome a new student, Anna, who dove into group activities with enthusiasm and confidence. Her kindness and self-assurance made her a wonderful new member of our team. After a warm-up game, we spent the first half of the day reviewing what we had learned throughout the year. Pairs competed in a fun quiz, and the winners were Lili and Melcsi – aka the “Slay Queens.” Congratulations, girls! After the traditional pizza lunch and some well-earned playtime outside, we had one final task: preparing for our performance at the December picnic. I hope many of you will attend—there are lots of great activities planned for everyone!

Dóra Bán
Senior Group

The senior group began the day with a competition. Split into two teams, they tested their knowledge of geography by matching and naming European capitals. We then switched topics and focused on literature, specifically poetry analysis: we explored the limerick form. In the afternoon, we discussed environmental protection, with each student sharing what they do to reduce waste. We ended the day with a discussion on the dangers of global warming.

Erika Andrell
MID Group

The MID group’s November session was full of movement and team games. We were lucky with the weather, so we could play lots of outdoor, sporty, and funny games in the shade of the school courtyard. The children love to compete and be active, and we learned a variety of skill-based games this Saturday. As it got warmer, we moved indoors and revisited some basic folk dance steps. Through fun rhymes and tricky tongue-twisters, we also explored the beauty of the Hungarian language. During the morning, everyone created their own self-portrait, and we made colorful picture frames decorated with ice cream sticks. After our much-anticipated pizza lunch, we played an exciting puzzle game using the self-portraits, and the kids etched creative handprint designs onto rainbow-colored scratch paper. At the end of the day, we assembled our group photo, which turned out just as fun, colorful, and lovely as the MID group itself.
